Cancel a pending transfer

The short answer: a transfer can only be stopped before you confirm it in your wallet. Once it is on-chain, it is permanent. Here is what that means at each stage.

Before you confirm

While you are still in the transfer flow, nothing has happened on-chain yet. You can back out at any point:

  • Use Back to leave the review step, or simply navigate away.

  • If your wallet has already prompted you to sign, reject the request in your wallet.

In either case no transfer takes place and the name stays in your account.

After you confirm

Once you approve the transaction in your wallet and it goes through, ownership moves to the recipient immediately. This cannot be reversed, and Box support cannot undo it. This is why the recipient step reminds you to check the address carefully before confirming.

What about the recipient's DNS claim?

For a transfer that includes DNS, the recipient has 48 hours to claim DNS by updating WHOIS (see Claim a transferred name). That claim window is not a way to cancel the transfer: the name already belongs to the recipient. If the recipient does nothing, only the DNS services lapse; the name stays with the new owner, who can re-enable DNS later.
