Connect an email provider
Once DNS is active, you can use email at your .box name (like [email protected]) through an email provider you already use. my.box does not host the mailbox itself. Instead, you point your name at your provider by adding a couple of DNS records, and the Email tab confirms it is set up correctly.
What you'll need
An account with an email provider that supports custom domains. my.box recognizes six providers when it checks your setup:
Google Workspace
Microsoft 365
Proton Mail
Zoho Mail
Fastmail
iCloud Mail
How connecting works
The Email tab walks you through two things your provider needs:
Verify Ownership: a TXT record that proves the name is yours.
Route Traffic: the MX records that tell email where to go.
The setup itself happens in three steps:
In the Provider setup guides section, open your provider's guide. It lists the exact records to add.
Choose Go to DNS Settings (or Configure MX Records) to jump to the Web tab, and add the TXT and MX records there. See Add and edit DNS records.
Come back to the Email tab and choose Perform check.
Knowing it worked
After a check, the Email tab shows a status:
Connected: both the TXT verification and the MX routing are in place.
Incomplete: one of the two is done, the other still needs adding.
Misconfigured: records are present but not right (see Troubleshoot email delivery).
Not detected: no email records found yet.
Records you just added usually take effect within an hour, so a status that looks wrong immediately after setup is often just timing. Wait, then choose Perform check again.
Changing or removing email
Because setup is just DNS records, you change or remove your email by editing or deleting those records on the Web tab, then choosing Perform check again.
