Renew your DNS activation
DNS is a paid layer on top of your .box name, and like the name itself it has an expiration. This article explains how DNS stays active and what happens if it lapses.
DNS and your name share one renewal
When you enable DNS, my.box aligns its expiration with your name's expiration, so both renew on a single date instead of on two separate schedules. You do not renew DNS on its own. You renew your name, and choose whether DNS renews along with it.
Choose what to renew
When you renew a name that has DNS active, my.box asks what to include:
Renew ENS + DNS renews both together and keeps them aligned. Your onchain identity, website, email, and DNS records all stay active. This is the recommended choice.
Renew ENS Only renews the name but not DNS. Your onchain identity and wallet resolution continue, but the DNS services (website and email) stop working at the end of the current term.
So keeping DNS active is simply a matter of choosing Renew ENS + DNS each time you renew.
If DNS lapses
If you renew ENS only, or let the name reach the end of a DNS term without renewing DNS, the DNS layer stops. Your website and email no longer work. Your .box name itself is unaffected: you still own it as an ENS name, and your identity settings are intact.
You can bring DNS back at any time by enabling it again. Because DNS aligns to your name's expiration, re-enabling it may include a one-time alignment charge to line the two dates back up, the same as when you first activated DNS.
