Auto-renew
Auto-renew keeps your .box name from expiring by renewing it automatically each year. It is available when you pay by card, and you can turn it off at any time.
Turning auto-renew on
Auto-renew is set up at checkout, on the card payment form. The Auto-renew domains toggle is on by default, and its label tells you what will be charged and when (for example, your card is charged the yearly rate starting on your renewal date). Leaving it on saves your card for that future charge.
Auto-renew is a card feature. Paying with crypto does not set up auto-renew, because an automatic future charge needs a saved card.
You can tell auto-renew is on from your name overview: the Registration card labels the date Renews when auto-renew is on, and Expires when it is off.
Turning auto-renew off
Open the name and, on the Overview tab's Registration card, choose Cancel Auto-Renew. A confirmation explains that automatic renewal will stop and that you will need to renew the name manually before it expires. Confirm to turn it off.
You can also manage it from the name's Admin tab, under Billing & Subscriptions. The Subscriptions card appears for any name with a card subscription, whether or not DNS is active. Open its Manage menu and choose Cancel Subscription. The confirmation tells you how long you keep what you have already paid for: for a name with DNS it is your DNS service, otherwise it is your registration, in both cases through the current term's end date.
Cancelling auto-renew does not shorten your current registration. Your name stays active through the term you already paid for.
Changing which card renews your name
The Manage menu on the Subscriptions card has two card options, and they do different things.
Change Card picks which of your already-saved cards this subscription bills. It opens a Change Payment Card dialog listing your saved cards, with the current one preselected. Choose another and select Save Changes. Expired cards are shown but cannot be selected, and if every saved card has expired you are asked to add a valid one before changing the subscription.
Edit Card opens the secure billing portal run by our payment processor, Stripe, where you change a card's own details or add and remove cards. See Manage payment methods.
If a name was bought before each name got its own subscription, one subscription can still cover several names. In that case the dialog names the other names it covers, because changing the card there changes it for all of them.
The Manage menu only appears while auto-renew is on. Once auto-renew is cancelled the card shows Auto-renew off and the menu goes away.
Turning it back on
To re-enable auto-renew after cancelling, renew the name by card and leave Auto-renew domains on at checkout. See Renew your .box name.
