Set up Nameserver Forwarding & Delegation

This guide will walk you through how to set up your domain to manage your DNS records outside of the my.box app.

When you Forward or Delegate your nameservers, your existing DNS records will be removed.

Nameserver Forwarding

Forwarding your nameservers allows you to manage your DNS records somewhere else.

Some registrars can let you manage with forwarding, some (like Cloudflare) will need you to enable Delegation. If your registrar does not recognize that you have forwarded your nameservers, proceed to the Nameserver Delegation instructions at the bottom of this guide.

Setup Nameserver Forwarding

1. Go to your domain -> DNS tab

2. Click on Add Nameserver button
3. Add your nameservers one at a time NOTE: You will need to enter at least 2 of them
4. Click on Apply updates
5. Refresh the page if it does not yet show your new Nameserver records (sometimes it takes a minute)

Remove Nameserver Forwarding

To remove nameserver forwarding, you need to delete your nameserver records.

This will reset your DNS records to their defaults, from when you initially purchased the domain.

1. Click the pen/edit icon on your custom Nameserver records and click Delete record button
2. There will be a confirmation window; click OK
3. Repeat this for all custom Nameserver records If you only had 2 records, they will both be set for removal

4. Click Apply updates

Nameserver Delegation

For some registrars, they require something called "Delegation". These include the likes of Cloudflare. To delegate your nameservers to another registrar, you need to first enable Nameserver Forwarding, and then enable delegation.

Setup Nameserver Delegation

1. Enable Nameserver Forwarding

2. Click on the Delegate button
3. Accept the wallet transaction to enable Nameserver Delegation in your wallet extension
4. Confirm that your nameservers are now being delegated

Remove Nameserver Delegation

This will reset your DNS records to their defaults, from when you initially purchased the domain.

1. Click on the Reset button
2. Click Apply updates
3. Complete the Web3 Transaction for updating your DNS records

4. Accept the wallet transaction to remove Nameserver Delegation in your wallet extension

As with all things Web2, it may take a few minutes for your other registrar to pick up this change. Typically, this should update in 5-10 minutes, and rarely it may take longer.
